The Sanborn Weekly ~ November 6, 2007

FROM THE SCHOOL OFFICE

Veterans Day

There is no school on Monday, November 12 in observance of Veterans Day.

Kindergarten Conferences

The second day for kindergarten Parent-Teacher Conferences is Tuesday,
November 13. There is no school for kindergarten children only on this
day.

Extended Learning Time Planning Grant

As many of you know, the Andover Public Schools recently applied for a
planning grant to explore the possibility of Extended Learning Time
(ELT) programming for six schools in town. I am pleased to share with
you that Andover been awarded this planning grant and, in the coming
months, Sanborn is one of the schools that will participate in a
feasibility study to determine whether Extended Learning Time is
something that would be best for our school community. A separate email
will be coming to you via ListServ that will provide more information on
this initiative.

Turkeys4America

Tomorrow, at our School Meeting, Sanborn will kick off the
Turkeys4America Drive. Founders Betsy and Danny Nally will join us to
kick off the 2007 campaign. We will be collecting donations in the
classrooms through Friday, November 16. The children will bring home
more information tomorrow. More information on this program can be
found at www.Turkeys4America.com <http://www.turkeys4america.com/> .
In advance, thank you for your support.

School Picture Retakes

O'Connor Studios will return to Sanborn on Wednesday, November 14 for
picture retakes. Children who were absent on the original day, can
bring their original order form to the camera. There are extra order
forms in the office for new students and students who may have misplaced
their original form. Students who wish to have a retake need to simply
return their original package to the photographer. Students with
retakes do not need to complete a new order form. Students who ordered
late and have not yet received packages do not need to have their
pictures retaken. If you submitted a late order and have not yet
received your child's package, please call O'Connor Studios directly at
978-640-6250.

Reading Incentive Program ~ Be Someone Who Reads!

Some of our students have already begun participating in our reading
incentive program. For those just getting started, here are the
directions for the Sanborn School's reading incentive program. By
following the simple guidelines detailed below, you can join the program
and become a better reader!

1. Write your name and grade on the record sheet.

2. Every time you finish a book, record the title and author on the
record sheet.

3. You may read, be read to, or listen to any book of your choice.

4. When you have finished reading five books, bring the record
sheet to the library on the day your class visits the library. Mrs.
Farrell will give you a sticker with your name on it to put on the chart
in the hallway.

5. Keep reading. The next time you finish five books, bring your
record sheet to Mrs. Farrell and she will give you a sticker to put next
to your name on the chart.

How many books do you think Sanborn School can read this year?

Coats for Kids

The Sanborn Student Council in collaboration with Anton's Cleaners is
sponsoring "Coats for KIDS". We are seeking donations of quality winter
coats for babies, children, and adults. Coats will be cleaned by
Anton's Cleaners and distributed by community agencies to those in need.
Donations may be brought to the Sanborn School foyer anytime through
January 15.

FROM THE P.T.O.

The Harvest Festival

We are now in the midst of preparing for Sanborn's 29th annual Harvest
Festival. This year's theme is "Be Somebody Artistic". It is a
wonderful opportunity for our children to celebrate the spirit of
giving. As a community, we will be filling harvest bags, which will be
delivered to approximately 250 senior citizens in Andover. It is a
great experience for our children to see the impact of reaching out to
others.

Notices will follow in the November yellow pages and placed in your
child's backpack as to the food donations we will need from you. We will
also need several volunteers to help sort and prepare the items to be
packaged. If you can help, please contact Kandie Hale
moehale at comcast.net, or Jane Miller bjanemiller at verizon.net.
