FROM THE SCHOOL OFFICE ~ November 13, 2007

Thanksgiving Recess

School closes next Wednesday, November 21 at 11:45 A.M. for Thanksgiving
recess and will reopen on Monday, November 26th.

Turkeys4America

Friday is the last day for donations for Turkeys4America. Help us to
reach our goal of $1800.

School Picture Retakes

O'Connor Studios will return to Sanborn tomorrow, Wednesday, November
14 for picture retakes. Children who were absent on the original day,
can bring their original order form to the camera. There are extra
order forms in the office for new students and students who may have
misplaced their original form. Students who wish to have a retake need
to simply return their original package to the photographer. Students
with retakes do not need to complete a new order form. Students who
ordered late and have not yet received packages do not need to have
their pictures retaken. If you submitted a late order and have not yet
received your child's package, please call O'Connor Studios directly at
978-640-6250.

 Best Wishes, Mrs. Price

This Friday, November 16 is Mrs. Price's last day here at Sanborn before
she begins her maternity leave. We wish the Price Family the best as
they await the birth of their new daughter. We welcome back to Sanborn
Mrs. Dorothy McCormick, who will cover Mrs. Price's maternity leave.

Good Luck, Mrs. Traub

Mrs. Traub's last day as Administrative Assistant at Sanborn will be
this Friday, November 16. We wish her well in her future endeavors!

Reading Incentive Program ~ Be Someone Who Reads!

Some of our students have already begun participating in our reading
incentive program. For those just getting started, here are the
directions for the Sanborn School's reading incentive program. By
following the simple guidelines detailed below, you can join the program
and become a better reader!

1. Write your name and grade on the record sheet.

2. Every time you finish a book, record the title and author on the
record sheet.

3. You may read, be read to, or listen to any book of your choice.

4. When you have finished reading five books, bring the record
sheet to the library on the day your class visits the library. Mrs.
Farrell will give you a sticker with your name on it to put on the chart
in the hallway.

5. Keep reading. The next time you finish five books, bring your
record sheet to Mrs. Farrell and she will give you a sticker to put next
to your name on the chart.

How many books do you think Sanborn School can read this year?

Coats for Kids

The Sanborn Student Council in collaboration with Anton's Cleaners is
sponsoring "Coats for KIDS". We are seeking donations of quality winter
coats for babies, children, and adults. Coats will be cleaned by
Anton's Cleaners and distributed by community agencies to those in need.
Donations may be brought to the Sanborn School foyer anytime through
January 15.

FROM THE P.T.O.

The Harvest Festival

Permission slips are coming home today with fifth graders for the
Harvest Festival Gift Bag deliveries on Friday, November 16. Please
return the forms no later than Thursday, November 15 so that your child
can participate. If your son or daughter will not be in school on
Friday, please let the classroom teacher know.

Final reminder ~ All donations for grades K, 3, 4 and 5 are due today,
Tuesday. Fresh baked breads should be brought in either Wednesday or
Thursday morning. The number of gift bags we are delivering this year
has increased, so all donations are needed and appreciated.

Wrapping Paper Fundraiser

Wrapping paper orders are due to be delivered next week. Orders are
expected to arrive before Thanksgiving. Stay tuned for more specific
information.

School Improvement Council

We need one more parent representative for the Sanborn School
Improvement Council. This is not a very time-consuming commitment.
Basically, as a group, we review the School Committee's budget allotment
for the 07/08 school year and survey the Sanborn parents and staff as to
their priorities for 08/09. Then, Ms. Barrett prepares a report in
conjunction with the other elementary school principals to be presented
at the School Committee's budget meeting in January. This year, all you
would have to do is attend a monthly meeting in Nov., Dec., and perhaps
one or two in the Spring. We are trying to find someone who will be at
Sanborn for a few more years so that they will be familiar with what we
do and be able to take the reigns next year and pass them on to future
newcomers. The two parents we presently have on the Council have fifth
graders and will be gone next year, so please consider this! Please
submit your name to Tracy Callahan at gtfamily at comcast.net if you are
interested.
