FROM THE SCHOOL OFFICE
Expanded Learning Time Informational Meetings
Please join us on Thursday, April 17 to hear more about Expanded
Learning Time. There will be a brief informational presentation
followed by small group question and answer sessions. The meeting will
be held at 7:00 P.M. in the Sanborn cafeteria. Also, parents of fourth
and fifth graders who will attend Wood Hill Middle School are invited to
attend an ELT informational meeting at Wood Hill Middle School on
tonight, April 15 at 7:00 P.M. in the Wood Hill Auditorium. You should
have all received by email a link to a Before and After School Time
Audit. Please take a few minutes to complete this at your earliest
convenience. Also today in a separate email, look for an Expanded
Learning Time brochure.
Appleseed ~ Spring Edition
Congratulations to the following Sanborn students for having pieces
selected for the Spring edition of the Greater Lawrence Educational
Collaborative Literary Magazine, Appleseed: Yearahm Ahn, Maria Cortner,
Henry Duerr, Caroline Hughes, Brianna Knight, Matt Lyons, Scott
MacDonald, Mari Nagahara, and Sarah Rothmann. Launch Night will be held
at the Marsh School in Methuen on Wednesday, April 30th.
Grade 5 Celebration of Learning ~ Save the Date
The grade 5 Celebration of Learning will be held on Thursday, June 19th.
More information will follow.
May MCAS Dates
The MCAS schedule for the May test administration is as follows:
Grade 3 Math: May 15 and 16
Grade 4 Math: May 13 and 14
Grade 5 Math: May 12 and 13
Grade 5 Science: May 19 and 20
Grade 5 Social Studies: May 22 and 23
Walk to School Day
Last Thursday, April 10th was Walk to School Day. It was great to see
so many children coming to school on foot on such a beautiful day. Once
we arrived, Mr. Gibson led us all in some exercises on the playground
before we started the day. We are planning another Walk to School Day
for later this spring and will schedule it on a day other than Thursday.

Sanborn Spotlight Talent Show is Tomorrow
The talent show will be held for the students tomorrow, Wednesday, April
16 at 1:00 P.M. There will be an evening performance for families, also
on Wednesday, at 6:30 P.M. Everyone is invited. Admission is free.
FROM THE COMMUNITY
Special Olympics Programming
A new Greater Andover Special Olympics Track & Field program will begin
practices on Sunday, April 20th from 12:30pm-2:00pm at Lawrence Veterans
Memorial Stadium. We are looking for Special Athletes from Andover,
Lawrence, North Andover, Methuen, as well as any surrounding towns. All
athletes from ages 8 through adult are welcome. Athletes may
participate in a full range of events including the following: 25 Meter
Dash, 50 Meter Dash, 100 Meter Dash, 200 Meter, 400 Meter, 800 Meter,
1500 Meter, 3000 Meter, Relays, Softball Throw, Tennis Ball Throw, Shot
put, Long Jump, Standing Broad Jump and High Jump. There will also be
wheelchair races. Athletes will be divided into categories based on age
and ability. Registration is free and signups can be done the day of
the event. The program will last approximately 6 weeks. Participants
have the opportunity to participate in the State Special Olympics Track
& Field Championships this summer. If you have any questions, feel free

Zero Waste Day ~ Saturday, May 3rd
Save the date for the Andover Recycling Committee's fourth annual Zero
Waste Day event! Spring is coming and it is time to clean out those
closets, basements and garages! Zero Waste Day is coming again.... it
is a perfect opportunity to de-clutter your home while helping our local
charitable organizations:
When: Saturday May 3rd, 9:00am - Noon
Where: At the rear of Brickstone Parking lot.
Charities such as St. Vincent's de Paul, Lazarus House, Lowell Wish,
Bikes Not Bombs and Got Books will be there, along with a few new ones:
MSPCA of Nevins farm and Community Giving Tree of Boxford. So, start
cleaning out your closets and drive on through Zero Waste Day. The
volunteers even help you unload your car!
ARC of Greater Lawrence ~ Training in Promoting Communication
This training will discuss how to improve receptive and expressive
communication skills in children with developmental disabilities.
Emphasis will be placed on increasing communication in order to decrease
problem behaviors and on utilizing a total communication approach. The
training will be held on April 16, from 6:30 - 8:30 pm at Nevins
Memorial Library at 305 Broadway in Methuen. The presenter will be Renee
Dean M.A., ED., BCBA from Melmark New England. RSVP toYajaira Blanco
