FROM THE SCHOOL OFFICE

Winter Concert a Huge Success

The annual Sanborn School Winter Concert was held last Wednesday night.
Congratulations to music teachers Mrs. Waddell, Mrs. Prasad, Mrs. Diehl,
and Mr. Noce and the third, fourth, and fifth grade students who
participated, on a wonderful performance. We look forward to the Spring
Concert, planned for June 5.

Car Pool Lane Concerns

In order to keep the car pool lane (in the afternoon) moving safely and
efficiently, parents are reminded that the children are to enter cars
through the left rear door. Teachers on duty will direct the children
to that door and remain while the child enters the back seat. Children
who are picked up in the car pool lane should be able to buckle
themselves in independently, allowing parents to remain in the car
during this pick-up process. If your child needs assistance getting
buckled in, it is best to park in the parking lot and come in to meet
your child in the office at dismissal.

Be Somebody Who Cares ~ Souper Bowl of Caring

Tomorrow, at our School Meeting, members of the Student Council will
explain the Souper Bowl of Caring to all of the children. Our Student
Council has joined the National School of Caring Organization and is
participating in the Souper Bowl of Caring. The Souper Bowl of Caring
is a national youth movement to fight hunger and poverty around Super
Bowl Weekend. Each year, your organize collections of money and canned
goods and donate 100% to local nonprofit organizations. Last year's
donations were valued at over $8 million.

The Student Council is planning to hold a fundraising drive on Friday,
February 1 to support the Souper Bowl of Caring. Children are
encouraged to bring in canned goods and/or cash, which will be collected
in the classrooms on Friday morning. The Student Council will be
donating the canned goods and money collected to the Lazarus House in
Lawrence to help support those families who lost their homes to fire.
Be Somebody Who Cares and donate to the Souper Bowl of Caring on Friday,
February 1.

and the children are hard at work practicing for performances for the

Thanks to those of you who have expressed interest in being a part of
the Study Group to explore the Expanded Learning Time initiative. The
first meeting will be scheduled within the next few weeks and those who
have expressed interest will be contacted. We will hold off gathering
feedback from the Sanborn community at large until after the Study Group
has met and compiled some information.

Nature's Classroom

As the parents of fifth graders well know, our students will head off to
Nature's Classroom in Charlton, MA, from February 26 - 29. As we begin
to plan for future years, there has been some interest in exploring
scheduling options for this outdoor education experience. In place of
Principal's Hour on Tuesday, February 12, I invite parents who are
interested in discussing and exploring options for future classes to
attend a meeting from 9:00 - 10:00 A.M. in the Sanborn Media Center.
