Act One* ~ grades 2-3
Using children's literature as a framework, students will be introduced
to the joys of theater and performance. Students
will learn basic acting skills including blocking, scene work, character
building, and voice projection as they
build self-confidence and stage presence. The final performance will be
a dramatization of a literary piece to which
friends and family will be invited. Instructor: TBA

I ntermediate Writer's Workshop* ~ grades 3-5
This is an ideal class for students who like to write! The class will
teach writing skills in a workshop format. Students
will have the opportunity to improve upon their skills while working on
creative fiction and nonfiction
pieces. Topics will include: descriptive writing, story leads, and
effective use of dialogue, word choice, style, and
voice. Instructor: Amy Higginbotham

Y oung Author's Workshop* ~ grades 2-3
Designed to motivate and inspire young writers. This course brings the
writing styles of famous children's authors
to life, including Van Allsburg, Carle, Yolen, and Pollacco. Sparking
original ideas through coaching, students will
bring their own words to paper. Sessions will cover the writing process
from first draft, to revision, editing, and
publishing their own illustrated books. Parents will be invited to
"Author's Tea" during final session.

Young artists will explore three paint mediums (water, acrylic, oil)

Stretch your mind! This course offers explorations in solving advanced
mathematical problems involving geometry,
measurement, graphing, statistics, and probability. Students will work
individually and in small groups in
stimulating activities which sharpen critical thinking. Geared to
students who love and seek mathematical challenges.

Y oung Photographer's Club* ~ ages 9-12
Explore the world of photography as a visual art discipline. Students
will study the perspectives and techniques of
famous photographers. Learn the basics of what makes an outstanding
photograph, and then practice photographing
outdoors with a 4x5 camera and indoors within a professional studio
setup. Course includes a visit to the photographer's
studio to experience the photo printing process. Each student will
develop their own portfolio. Students
are required to bring a 35 mm or digital camera to class. Material fee
paid in class at first session, $8.

Reader's Theater Workshop* * ~ grades 2-3
Reading fluency, directly linked to comprehension, is a vital element in
reading achievement. This workshop is a
stimulating arena in which students engage in repeated readings or
"rehearsal" of their parts, practice dialogue
from literature and scripted plays, and showcase their fluency in
culminating performances. Reading practice in a
theatrical setting is research-based and motivational. Parents invited
to a final performance.

Y oung Thespians* ~ ages 9-12
A stimulating drama course designed for both the beginning actor and the
more experienced. Skills include theatre

and preparing for auditions. Students will showcase their talents in a
culminating production they help to create.

In this studio art class you will learn and use different techniques to
manipulate clays: slabs, cols, and pinch posts.
Hand building is not only creative, but rewarding, as objects are formed
right before you with your own hands.
You will have the opportunity to make useful and enjoyable objects
including mugs, jars, and pots.
