Dear Parents of Andover Third Graders,

 

The Andover Public Schools Fine Arts Department would like to announce
that due to the success of last year's third grade beginning strings,
the program will again be offered at all of the elementary schools this
school year.  The purpose of this program is to give all third graders
an additional period of in-school music each week either to begin the
study of a string instrument (violin, viola, cello, or bass) or to
receive extra recorder instruction (which is already a part of the third
grade music curriculum).  The goal is to strengthen both the elementary
string and recorder programs.

 

Earlier this spring, your child had the opportunity to hear the West
Middle School Orchestra when it gave a concert at your elementary
school.  We hope that you have discussed this presentation and have
started to make plans for the school year.  Each student will choose
which instrument he or she wishes to pursue (violin, viola, cello, bass,
or recorder).  The only cost to parents will be a rental fee if a string
instrument is chosen (see the attached information sheet from Johnson
String Instruments in Newton, MA).  All students will have already
purchased a recorder for their general music class.

fill out and return the attached registration form to your child's
classroom teacher no later than Friday, September 14.  We look forward
