Re: Information and networking group
Dear Parents,
We would like to invite you to participate in a new program that we are
offering in the school district this year for parents of elementary
school-aged children with special needs. There has been interest
expressed by your fellow parents to have a regular opportunity to
receive information on topics relevant to raising a child with some kind
of special need, as well as to have opportunities to meet other parents
and share information and support with each other. This new program is
intended to replace current parent support groups which are operating in
several of the elementary schools in town. The program will be
content-based, with guest speakers every month. It is our intention to
reserve some time at every meeting for discussion on the topic of the
month, as well as any new concerns that parents wish to discuss with one
another. Depending on the interests of the participants, potential
discussion topics could include socialization issues, the transition to
middle school, helping extended family and friends to understand your
child, sibling relationships, how to help your child with special needs
to become more confident and independent, and home-school partnerships
on behalf of your child. You may have ideas on other topics you would
like to hear about, and we can discuss them when we meet.
This first year the group will be facilitated by Andover Public Schools
school social worker Janet Yedinak, who has worked in cooperation with
the Andover Special Education Parent Advisory Council (SEPAC) to plan
the program. The group will meet in one of the 3rd floor conference
rooms in the school administration building, near the Pupil Personnel
office. You will see listed below some choices for when this group
could meet. If you would like to participate, please contact Janet at
978-623-8900 ext.4117 or at jyedinak at aps1.net and indicate your
preference for what meeting day/times would work best for you for the
remainder of this school year. Please leave your name and a telephone
number and email address, if possible, where you can be reached.
Do You Prefer:
One Thursday per month from 9:00 AM to 10:15 AM
One Thursday per month from 9:30 AM to 10:45 AM
One Monday per month from 1:00 to 2:15 PM
Ideally, we will try to have our first meeting in late January or early
February. We look forward to hearing from you and hope you are able to
join us!
