Dear West Elementary School Parents and Guardians:
On Wednesday, February 27th, the West Elementary School P.T.O. will host a discussion led by Superintendent Claudia Bach concerning the search for a new principal. Dr. Bach and I will present an overview of the search process and answer related questions. We will focus our discussion on the skills, experiences and attributes you seek in the new principal of the West Elementary School. The content of this discussion will be shared with the search team in order to assist them in assessing the candidates' match to the position.
We are aware that many of you may not able to attend the meeting. Understanding this, we are writing to keep you up-to-date about the search process and the timeline we have set for finding Mr. Friel's replacement.
First, let me begin by assuring you that we look forward to parental involvement throughout the process. Parents have much to contribute in helping us identify the kind of person who best matches the needs of the West Elementary School. We would like you to consider the following ways by which you can make a contribution to the process.
Add your thoughts to the work of the Focus Group:
As I mentioned, Dr. Bach and I will hold a focus group on the morning of February 27th at 9:00 am in the West Elementary School Teacher's room. If you are unable to make this meeting, you may participate in this part of the process by completing the enclosed worksheet and returning it to the Human Resource Office before February 29, 2008. To insure that your worksheet is sent to us, please put it in an envelope marked "Human Resource Office" and give it to Ms. Sue Monteiro, West Elementary school secretary. She will send it to us through inter-office mail.
Join the Search Team:
On behalf of the school administration, I invite you to be part of the search team. We would like approximately 6-8 parent volunteers to participate in the reviewing of applications. This work involves reading all of the written materials in a candidate's application packet and assessing it according to pre-established criteria. This work is scheduled to be done the week of March 3-March 7, and the human resource office will be open evenings to accommodate work schedules.
In selecting parents to be part of the search team, we will make every effort to keep the team as diverse as possible. Ideally, we would like parents representing students at every grade level, parents representing special education students, parents of both genders and, to the extent possible, parents representing cultural and/or racial diversity. If you are interested in participating, please fill out the enclosed form and send it to the Superintendent through inter-office mail by February 29, 2008.
