PTO MEETING CANCELED THIS Wednesday

 

 

WEST ELEMENTARY 3rd grade CONCERT

featuring the 3rd grade strings, recorders and chorus and the 4th grade
strings

Thursday, January 10th  1:00pm for students; 7:00pm for parents and
friends

 

Please wear black pants/skirts and white tops to both concerts.

 

ARRIVE at 6:15pm to tune for the concert.

 

They should be practicing the following songs:

        Winter Warm-up

        Twinkle Twinkle Little Star (the 1st line)

        Hot Cross Buns (pizzacato)  on A, D and G strings.

 

 

 

Upcoming Event from Parent to Parent:  "Raising Cain:  Exploring
Underachievement in Boys" 

Thirty years ago, 58% of college graduates in the U.S. were young men.
That figure is now 44%.  Three-quarters of valedictorians in a major
U.S. city are girls.  Colleges are struggling to maintain a 60/40 female
to male ratio. Educators and commentators in the United States have
finally acknowledged the growing gap between girl and boy academic
achievement at all levels. The explanations for this phenomenon,
however, are varied and inconclusive. In this talk, Dr. Thompson will
discuss the top ten reasons for "boy underachievement" from a
psychological point of view and offer solutions for addressing boy
disengagement in the classroom.
